self driven residencies
HÚSIÐ puts an emphasis on human connections. We believe that growth comes from meeting people and socializing. Every encounter enriches us, challenges us and inspires us.
The Residency at HÚSIÐ provides you with a nice studio space, that you may be sharing with other artists, or just curious visitors. The studio is open everyday, and anyone is free to drop by, discuss, follow the evolution of your work...
We want to allow the artists to connect with the local community and culture, which is a lovely source of inspiration.
We highly encourage you to organize an exhibition at the end of your stay, and we will be happy to assist you in organizing this event.
The residency program is open to self-driven visual artists, designer, architect, writer, painter sculptor, film maker.
We make an emphasis on people with interest in connecting with the local community.
The studio space & accommodation
are hosted in an old timber house within the village, located between the ocean and the mountain.
The house counts 3 double bedrooms with shared living space, kitchen and bathroom.
The interior is rustic, some of the space are using the original finishes that date back to 1898.
The main studio is a 25m2 of a bright office-like space facing the sea.
It has a few basic equipment available for resident like an electro-acoustic guitar and electric piano (with midi port), video projector, A4 scanner, small printer, camera, 20/20 cm 3D printer, easel, small selection of art supply (good for workshops mainly).
Residents are expected to bring their own art supply. If you need to purchase art supply in Iceland we can help you source for supplier.
The secondary studio is a 20m2 basement workshop facing the sea, it has a limited headspace but is more suited for use of machinery or research work.
Residents are expected to bring their own tools, as the selection of tools available is still very limited - although we are working on building a tool library soon.
We are located in Patreksfjordur, an isolated fjord in the Westfjords region of Iceland.
Easiest and fastest way to get here is by plane from Reykjavik EAGLE AIR (40min flight)
or by car (about 5h drive from Reykjavik) you can check with WESTFJORDS ADVENTURE for car rental options.
It is also possible to take the ferry for part of the trip see options at SAEFERDIR From Stykkisholmur to Brjanslaekur.
Traveling cost are at the resident charge charge.
We are doing our best to keep the cost as low as we can, to allow any talented artist or designer to come regardless of their financial possibilities, (although Iceland is a fairly expensive country)
